Protect Your Property With RCD Safety Switches
A safety switch, also known as an RCD, is one of the simplest and most important pieces of protection your property can have. It monitors the electricity flowing through a circuit and cuts the power within milliseconds if it detects a fault, which is often the difference between a minor incident and a serious electric shock.
Many older homes and some commercial properties across the Northern Beaches still do not have safety switches fitted on every circuit. We install RCD safety switches across Sydney, bringing properties up to the level of protection that is now standard on every new build.
What's Involved in Installing a Safety Switch
Safety switch installation is usually straightforward, especially on a board with available space. The work typically includes:
- Assessing your existing switchboard and circuit layout
- Fitting RCD safety switches across all power and lighting circuits
- Testing each safety switch to confirm it trips correctly
- Upgrading the board first if there is no room or it is not compliant
If your board is older or already at capacity, we will let you know upfront whether a full switchboard upgrade makes more sense than adding switches piece by piece.
Who Needs a Safety Switch
Safety switches are now required on every circuit in new installations, and they make a real difference in older properties too. We are regularly called out where:
- The property has no safety switches at all
- Only some circuits are protected, not all of them
- A rental property needs to meet current compliance requirements
- A landlord or strata manager needs safety switches fitted across a building
If you are not sure what is currently fitted on your board, we can check it for you as part of the quote.
